Birth Photography

We are always privileged to help you document your entire birth experience, from anticipation to first breath.  It is a joyous, precious, and fleeting experience you will never regret capturing.  We use photojournalistic techniques, rendering tasteful and timeless imagery.  Most of what we capture is displayed for you in black and white for a soft, artistic feel which more properly conveys the mood.

Our flat-rate birth photography service includes photography time and digital files on USB.  Travel fees are included for all hospitals in Fort Bend County and in the Houston Medical Center.  Additionally, a mini session is included in this service price, which you can use for a gender reveal or maternity session.  You may choose to substitute this for a complimentary in-person consultation so we can meet and discuss your birth plan before the Big Day.

{ common questions }

What are the portrait sessions and how are they different?

The portrait sessions are traditional, posed photo shoots.  A mini session is included in our Labor & Delivery price, but if you would like to upgrade that or add an in-home newborn session to your birth photography, we welcome and encourage you to do so.  There are so many aspects to waiting for and welcoming baby into your family, you’ll never regret capturing each unique and precious moment.

What is a Birth Bijou?

A bijou is a vintage term that traditionally means movie house or cinema.  We love the black-and-white imagery in our sessions, leaving a timeless impression on your labor experience.  The Bijou is a selection of your images set to music and presented on a DVD in a slideshow format.  The first pressing of your DVD is $125 and copies are $50 each.

If I choose to do a portrait session, can I choose different quantities of images besides twelve ($125) or all of them ($350)?

Absolutely.  These sets are your best value, but you may purchase them individually for $45 each.

What happens if I labor for more than 10 hours?

Generally, by the time you arrive at the hospital and notify us when you’ve reached 4cm dilation, your birth doesn’t last much longer than this.  However, in that circumstance, you will have to purchase additional time at the conclusion of your birth. I will stay as long as requested at the published rates, provided I do not have personal commitments or ticketed travel that I am unable to change or reschedule.  When I take on a birth client, I notify my portrait session clients that a reschedule may be necessary, as the unpredictability of a birth requires flexibility.

Do I have to purchase post-delivery photography?

Not for the initial recovery period.  While mom is being attended to by the medical staff for post-delivery care, I capture baby’s first moments of life including measurements, foot prints, time in the incubator, and other details as physical space and personnel permit.  After this point or once baby begins nursing or feeding (whichever occurs last), I consider the birth session completed and will bid farewell.  If you would like me to stay through the point of being placed in your permanent room to document baby being welcomed by special visitors, you will need to purchase this additional time.

Are there any hidden fees?

The only fees not listed on our price menu are 6.25% state sales tax and any incidentals such as tolls, parking, or additional on-call time.  Sometimes, these fees can be waived or reduced, so we will discuss these charges in detail during your consultation.   Otherwise, there are no surprises.  The flat fee for your complete birth covers everything without worry!
