Newborn

Studio Ainsley has been providing newborn photography for Houston families since 2006.  For over ten years, we have specialized in baby photography and creating an unparalleled session experience.  Here, you will find details about how to start building the perfect newborn session experience.

{ when should you book your session? }

Photographically speaking, newborn is considered the first two weeks of life.  This is when they look fresh and new and will easily pose into sweet, sleepy bundles.  Ideally, you should book while you’re still pregnant so we can design your session together and go over your expectations before baby arrives.  If you wait until you’ve brought your newborn home from the hospital, the precious 3-4 day lead time we need to book you has elapsed.  We will try to work you into our schedule if time allows, so don’t delay in reaching out to us to schedule your newborn session!

{ how does the session work? }

We bring props and accessories along with us, so we can create a studio atmosphere at your home.  Naturally, we exercise the utmost care when handling your newborn and keep our working space comfortable and clean.  A complete, unhurried portrait experience includes enough time to allow your session unfold and capture the images that are meaningful to you.  The best poses are when baby is asleep and relaxed, so we will turn on a space heater in the room in order to raise the temperature to a level that allows baby to be calm, even outside of clothing or a blanket.

Our schedule sets aside three hours of session time for plenty of leeway to feed baby on demand, change our sets and backgrounds, and move around the areas with the best lighting .  Occasionally, we will exceed this time, but it’s rare, and most babies let us know after three hours that they are ready for us to leave!  The most important thing to remember, and what we always take into account, is that baby sets the tone and pace of our time together, and it’s our obligation to respect everyone’s wishes… even if they are just days old.

Your session is a collaborative experience with your photographer, and we will work as a team going over all the details beforehand.  This lets us get to know you and your style, and allows you to give us your wish list of ideas.  While we do provide props, swaddle wraps, and other details, your images should reflect your unique style, and we are thrilled to be able to incorporate items that are meaningful to you.  Along with pictures in the nursery or your master bedroom, using the decor and architecture there, we can use wedding rings, collegiate gear, musical instruments, and many other keepsakes or important props.
